What Do Landscape Guys Do In The Winter?

Google that question and you actually get some practical, some sarcastic and some interesting answers.  On the practical side a lot a guys in the northeast snowplow, cut and sell firewood. This makes sense and utilizes a necessity of the season. Next, it seems there are a lot of guys who chose to do nothing.

Well, if you've worked hard and made all the money you need, and then squirreled it away for the winter I guess you're entitled to relax and hibernate for the winter. Then there are some who claim to relax and drink beer, it's a long winter and that's a lot of beer! Now this guy really impressed me, here is his quote "Personally, we are booked through late January right now. When you are starting out its tough until your name gets around. My first winter was real hard financially. I treated each day like a work day....whether I had work or not and did not sit at home. Get out and mingle with potential customers/contractors/wholesale-houses /nurseries or whatever.   Just keep pluggin' away and something will come of it." Then there is the guy who does roofing, he says its cold, but its work. Christmas light installation and removal seems to appeal to a lot of guys.

This one guy bragged he did about 20k during the holiday season, not bad. One guy simply hibernates. So I guess it's a matter of finance, ambition and experience that will determine what you do this winter. Whatever you decide to do this winter keep your name out there don't let your customers forget about you. Maybe that means just driving your truck in the areas you usually work. The more you're potential customers see you, the better your chances are to get that phone call for a big springtime project. Have a safe and productive
